How Freeman-Fritts Steps In When Families Need It Most

Loving your pet is the easy part — it’s the unexpected moments that can feel overwhelming. When families find themselves facing the unimaginable, the Elsa Fund steps in to help. And that’s exactly how it all began.

Loving your pet is the easy part — it’s the unexpected moments that can feel overwhelming. When families find themselves facing the unimaginable, the Elsa Fund steps in to help.

And that’s exactly how it all began.

Many years ago, Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter established the Elsa Fund as a lifeline for owned pets in need. The fund was named after a beloved cat, Elsa, whose little girl brought her to us after Elsa had ingested a string. Her family had exhausted their savings through multiple veterinary visits, desperately trying to determine what was wrong. When the string wrapped around Elsa’s tongue was finally discovered, they simply had no funds left for treatment.

We saw their plea on social media and knew we had to help.

Since its inception, the Elsa Fund has assisted countless dogs and cats with urgent, much-needed medical care — all at no cost to their families.

Recently, that lifeline came in the form of a little dog named Gucci.

When a catastrophic fire tore through his home, it left devastation in its wake. Gucci’s family lost nearly everything — everything but each other. When we learned of their situation, we reached out. After visiting with them, we asked that they bring Gucci to the clinic so we could examine him.

Thankfully, he was no worse for wear. However, exposure to heavy soot and smoke had taken a toll on his thick coat. Gucci needed a little extra care and grooming, and we were more than happy to provide it.

Helping beloved pets like Gucci is exactly what the Elsa Fund is designed to do. Our goal is to stand beside families when they need us most — and the Elsa Fund makes that possible.

If you would like to join us in helping dogs like Gucci, tax-deductible donations can be made directly to the Elsa Fund.

Together, we can continue to be a lifeline.
