Freeman Fritts Animal Shelter has always been dedicated to improving the lives of the dogs and cats in our care. From day one, we’ve made it a priority to provide the enrichment, comfort, and amenities every animal deserves—whether their stay with us is short or long.

While our sponsorship program does include several wonderful dogs, this update is all about the kitties who call FF home.

Some of the cats in our care are more challenging to place due to medical needs, behavioral quirks, or circumstances beyond their control. That’s why we created our sponsorship program back in 2020. Many of these cats require specialized diets or daily medications, and each sponsorship helps offset the costs of providing lifelong care for these special residents.

While we are always open to adoption for these cool cats, until then you can find many of our fabulous felines featured on our website under the sponsor section. Our sponsor cats are just as important to us as the ones available for adoption—maybe even more so in some ways. They may never know (or want to know) what it feels like to sleep in someone’s bed, but their happiness and well-being matter just as much.

And that brings us to some wonderful news for a very special group of cats who may call our facility home for the rest of their lives. Thanks to the generosity of a longtime supporter and devoted cat lover, Phase 1 of a two-part improvement project is officially complete, and we couldn’t be more excited. With beautiful weather right around the corner, the timing couldn’t be better. ☀️

Phase 1 included the creation of a safe outdoor space where the cats can come and go freely through a cat door. An elevated catwalk now allows the cats in our community cat room to access a large, secure outdoor catio. With gentle ramps and thoughtful design, even our most mobility-challenged residents can enjoy it. They’ll be able to soak up the sunshine, watch birds and butterflies, feel the fresh air, and maybe even touch noses with a feral neighbor or two who also call FF home. 🐱

And this is just the beginning…
